Just to get things off to a perfect start we decided to go to London for a couple of days at the beginning of the month. We couldn’t get the cheap Bargain Berths i.e. the proper sleepers so we opted for the “couchettes” which although saving you having to find accommodation in London aren’t really a substitute for a proper night’s sleep. Still once in a while isn’t a problem.

Back To Normal
Well June did have a few moments but mainly it’s only been good for weeds and midges! Although Kintyre may not have fared as badly as some other places, there has been very little sunshine and stupid amounts of wind. We’ll be lucky to match our Spring submission to Scottish Gas for the pv installation but hey, what goes around comes around. Continue reading “Back To Normal”
Scorchio

We had a visit from Emily and Richard who came to do the Gigha Challenge then stayed on and gave us a hand in the garden. Richard was on a mission to improve the view so he shinned up the cedar at the front of the house and lopped off the branches that were spoiling it, as well as the branches that were choking a copper beech. John finished off the other one the next day and what a difference it makes. Continue reading “Scorchio”
Dreamin’, I’m Always Dreamin’
This particular Johnny Burnette classic has been causing some grief at the Thursday night Fynesiders practices. The Leads can’t get the timing right and the whole thing goes to pot. Meanwhile, Tenor Tim and John continue to strangle the Postman. More about this in the future, if it comes to anything.
rEd?
It seemed that the new pv panels would never get enough sunshine to do anything meaningful as early March in Kintyre was grey and overcast for about a fortnight. Finally, however, we got our share of the sunny weather and the juice started flowing and rEd started flashing on the main electricity meter. Google tells me it stands for “reverse energy detected” and I’d like to think it was actually running the meter backwards (apparently this happens with some older meters) but who knows? Anyway, the system works and we Continue reading “rEd?”
It’s Scotland’s Water!
I seem to have started a lot of our blogs with references to rain but really I can’t believe how much water has fallen on Kintyre this winter, especially since the south of England is now officially in drought. At least Ba’Bag and his Dad haven’t re-appeared but really, I’ve never seen the pond so full! This might explain why we are visited most mornings by Hanibal the Heron and his missus. Not sure what they are up to but it makes for an interesting breakfast watching H. searching for prey. A bit prehistoric but different. Continue reading “It’s Scotland’s Water!”
Ba’bag’s Big Daddy!
Well all I can say is that we survived! Having enjoyed a lovely Christmas in Worcester and had Emily and Richard and Steve and Sharon here for New Year, the night of Monday 2nd and Tuesday 3rd January 2012 was scary. Suse and I moved downstairs as the really big gusts started rattling the house. Both of us were resigned to whatever was going to happen. At 7 o’clock there was a loud bang and the electricity went off and the trees start dancing! Continue reading “Ba’bag’s Big Daddy!”
I Hate Painting!
One good thing about Hurricane Ba’bag was that it forced us into finishing the upstairs painting. We’d been putting it off because the double height ceilings are so hard to do. Otherwise, Ba’bag and his cousin on the following Tuesday, gave us plenty to think about, I was so pleased the new greenhouse stood up to them! Even the locals thought it was all a bit much but there appears to have been surprising little damage. Continue reading “I Hate Painting!”
Rain, Scottish Rain
Hatches and Matches
Having had a number of funerals to attend in recent years, we were delighted to have had a new grandson this year and the wedding of Emily and Richard. I think that both events provided a lot of pleasure for everyone. In June we celebrated John’s 60th with his sister and brother in law and Emily and Richard at Tibbie Shiels where John went on to do a Long O the following day.
