The next couple of days saw us doing speed boat trips to Cathedral Cove and visiting Hot Water Beach and generally being tourists. Following our brush with the “Park Stormtrooper” at Coroglen, Jo & Johnny opted for the peace of mind and showers in a Top 10 site at Hot Water Beach which was very reasonably priced.

Emily & Co pushed on to a DOC (Department of Corrections?) site at Wentworth via an opencast mine and some glow worm caves. They had showers too but no lights!

After that we made our separate ways to Rotorua, where we managed another Parkrun and some more heavyweight tourism involving gondolas, luge rides, mountain biking.

John sat in a number of very nice carparks, sunning himself for most of these and later in the day also sat in the Rotorua hospital carpark whilst Johnny got plastered following a mountain biking fall.

After Rotorua Parkrun we motored to Taupo via Kerosene Creek. Here, the hot water river bathing was a lot less faff than a hot tub and absolutely delightful, although Suse’s white top will never recover. The German couple who seemed to be re-creating the scene from “The Day of The Jackal” movie where Edward Fox re-sprays his car in the middle of a forest were intriguing.
